Magic mushrooms' have long-lasting benefits, who knew? Uh, me. I knew!
Tue Jul 01, 2008 at 01:17:50 PM PDT
Today, AP is reporting on the long lasting health benefits of psilocybin. The article, whilst well intentioned, is written from the perspective of the uninitiated and well, uses phrases like:
She felt like she was taking off. She saw colors. Then it felt like her heart was ripping open
and
Experts emphasize that people should not try psilocybin on their own because it could be harmful
Who are these so called experts and why are they trying to ruin everyone's good time? Here is a link to the full article:

Moveon's latest (and most briliant) Ad.
Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 12:47:24 PM PDT
I was looking for an OT to add this too. Didn't find one. I'll take this down if it is deemed to be too light in content.
So I'm having fun today on the great orange satan. Trying not to take anything too seriously since I am hopelessly addicted to this site and often times find myself, blood all a boil, cursing at my laptop and scaring the dogs. I'd rather spend my time bouncing around the intertubes and finding funny pictures to post, which as I'm sure you all know, makes for a productive day at work.
Then I got this email from Move On. I don't usually post diaries asking for contributions, but this ad needs to get some air time. If you can, click through to donate $25 to Move On. The email and the video below the fold.
Letter from one of the few people whose opinion matters to me; my mom.
Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 12:20:47 PM PDT
Just a few words to preface this letter. My mother is one hell of a women. Raised in a conservative Jewish house hold, she risked alienation from her family to marry my father, a goy form Greece. My father, who is one hell of a man, ran the same risk. After a while, both sides of the family came around and accepted the fact that my father and mother were in love and no amount of protestations could change that. They will be celebrating their 37th (I think) anniversary on June 10th this year.
I was raised agnostic and I am comfortably secular. I was also raised to never judge a person based on any one aspect of them. People with different skin color, ideologies, accents or ways of dressing were never to be looked down on. I was never to use any racial slurs because there were people who would call me a kike, take me away from my home and family, intern me in a prison camp and eventually kill me. Those people were called nazis. And we were to never act like them.
My father taught me to tie the perfect fishing knot and cut the excess string with my teeth, play soccer, not cry after I got my ass kicked, build things, take care of animals and generally how to be a man.
My mother taught me how to have compassion for my fellow man.
More after the jump.
Bob Barr Announces Death of Republican Party
Mon May 12, 2008 at 04:07:15 PM PDT
Bob Barr, in a move heralded by liberals everywhere as the "greatest fucking news ever" launched a Libertarian Party presidential bid Monday, saying voters are hungry for an alternative to the status quo who would dramatically cut the federal government. MSNBC reports that his
candidacy throws a wild card into the White House race that many believe could peel away votes from Republican Sen. John McCain given the candidates' similar positions on fiscal policy.
But the best part? Guess who he hired?
Barr, who has hired Ross Perot's former campaign manager, acknowledged that some Republicans have tried to discourage him from running. But he said he's getting in the race to win, not to play spoiler or to make a point.
All I can really say about this is WHOOPEE!!!
But I'll try to contain myself and add enough of my opinion to warrant a diary. More after the fold.
North Florida to sanction south Florida if South Florida continues its weapons program.
Tue May 06, 2008 at 02:19:50 PM PDT
Okay. So the title might be a bit misleading. South Florida doesn't have a weapons program. South Florida is not even it's own state. Yet. But one day it might be.
In an interesting turn of events, the North Lauderdale (my home town) city commission, furious at what they call "no respect" from largely republican state leaders when it comes to collecting and spending their own money, passed a resolution requesting that Florida be divided into two states: North Florida and South Florida with the boundary line from Palm Beach County down through Monroe County.
The North Lauderdale Commission has sent out 306 resolutions asking other municipalities and counties to join in the effort.
On Wednesday night, the city of Margate takes up the same issue.
More on what this is really about in Flipsville.

It's 3am and the economy is calling; do you know where your 20 billion is?
Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 04:06:59 PM PDT
John Dickerson of Slate asked during a Clinton conference call with Communications director Howard Wolfson, as he did with the earlier 3:00 am ad:
When has Hillary Clinton ever answered the phone at 3:00 am before regarding an economic crisis?
Wolfson responded (without the "pregnant pause") that unless one is president, "you don't have a single moment" like answering the phone at 3:00 am. He went on to add that Clinton "has a lifetime of experience, both in and out of the White House... Ultimately, voters make this decision." And that "Voters have made this decision, based on the results of Ohio and Texas, that Sen. Clinton passed this test."
Thankfully it's not solely up to Ohio and Texas.
Dickerson, being the tenations little bugger he is, followed up asking the Clinton campaign to be more specific and offer an example when Clinton responded to an economic crisis. Wolfson, not skipping a beat, cited her efforts to ensure that New York got the resources it needed after 9/11.
"There is much, much credit to go around," he said. "But. Sen. Clinton certainly did her part."
When is someone going to tell these guys about the internet? More below the fold.
