Mukasey at the Bat

Mukasey at the Bat

The outlook wasn't brilliant, not for Bushco that first day
When Senators were grilling Mike Mukasey, he gave way
The Dems seemed somewhat pleased to find him not so hard to handle
Perhaps he wouldn't prove to be some Visigoth or Vandal

House arrest for British terror suspects ruled "too draconian"

Thu Nov 01, 2007 at 10:50:12 PM PDT

The British Government's practice of placing foreign terror suspects under house arrest for 18 hours has been ruled too severe by Britain's senior judges.

More on this allied Government out of (Cheney's) control, below the fold.

Those New "MRAP" Armored Vehicles -- Already Obsolete?

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 10:15:36 AM PDT

The Pentagon just spent more than $1 billion to buy thousands of those heavily armored, mine-resistant vehicles, to protect our Marines in Iraq against roadside bombs -- so that's good news, right?  Because we all want to support the troops.

Sadly, the MRAPs may be obsolete before they're all shipped to the war zone, and useless for anything else after the Iraq war finally ends.

More dismal stuff below the fold.

McCain's "Dead Greenspan" Plan:  Historical Antecedent?

Fri Oct 05, 2007 at 12:27:52 PM PDT

Republican Senator John McCain has a plan to revive the economy by propping  up Alan Greenspan's corpse -- with sunglasses, a la "Weekend at Bernie's" -- to serve as Chairman of the Federal Reserve.  I suspect the Senator was joking, as "Weekend at Bernie's" was considered by many to be a comedy.  Still, I am reminded of an actual "propping up a public-figure's corpse" incident taking place more than a thousand years ago:  the Vatican's "Cadaver Trial."

I Am Not Gay! by Larry "Poesy Lover" Craig

Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 12:38:47 PM PDT

Last week, one of Senator Larry Craig's lawyers told Chris Matthews that Craig might not resign, "if he gets some type of relief in Minnesota,"  where he was trying to overturn his guilty plea in a sex-sting case.
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com...

I thought it was Craig's attempt to "get some relief in Minnesota" that got him in trouble in the first place?

More bad news for Craig:  the judge told him today (I'm paraphrasing) that he's been a dirty, NASTY boy, and he won't be getting relief in Minnesota, after all.  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...

I'm sure Craig's upset; he's been fantasizing about getting off in Minnesota for months now.  But moments after the judge's ruling,  Craig screwed up yet again.  He  mistakenly emailed me a draft of his next PR move:  a poem.  I'm not averse to sharing a verse, or several. . .

Whaddya mean, where?  Below the fold, of course.

An Interview with A. Lincoln (w/Pootie Reference)

Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 06:31:51 PM PDT

I had to move Heaven and Earth to get this interview with our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, on the subject of the Bush Administration and the current state of American politics.  He agreed subject to one precondition:  his responses would be couched in words previously uttered/written by him (plus a couple of "attributeds").

The full transcript of the interview, with Mr. Lincoln's words boldfaced, is below the fold.

Defense Dept.'s New Next-of-Kin Letters

Tue Oct 02, 2007 at 08:25:37 AM PDT

General Petraeus' Senate testimony predicted American killed-in-action casualties from the surge as "probably in the neighborhood of 60 to 90, probably on average 80 to 90, average."  http://mediamatters.org/...

Now the figures are in for September -- a mere 64 U.S. military deaths!  Way, way to the low side of the estimate!  It's working!

http://news.yahoo.com/...

This phenomenal success has prompted the Defense Department to change its next-of-kin notification process.

Continued, below the fold.

Bush Is No Idiot (A Doggerelic's Rant)

Sun Sep 23, 2007 at 06:32:10 AM PDT

Bush Is Not An Idiot

DKos FP'ers, diarists, too
Frequently express the view --
And commenters, as like as not --
Are wont to brand Bush "idiot"
An idiot? No, I demur
This charge he just should not incur
Some may wonder, "Redstate trolling?"
Wait a sec, I just got rolling!
Idiot's a slur I've heard
Much levelled here -- it's not the word
That fits our Prez's situation.
Infra, see my explication . . .
