Dear Senator _________, LEAD OR ELSE!

Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 09:24:41 PM PDT

I reached a tipping point today and I am certain that I am not the only good citizen to have reached that place. I have gone from unhappy to uneasy to upset to angry and finally to a place where I am demanding action from leaders. LEAD US OR ELSE FACE DAILY CALLS FROM ANGRY CITIZENS. SO today I called my Senators and my Congressional Representative and made clear my expectations, I have followed that up with the following letter over the fold.

Dear Senator _________,
I am at the very frayed end of my rope! George W. Bush, Richard Cheney and this administration need to be reigned in. We need to pursue the option of impeachment and I say that with absolute certainty. I have never felt so strongly that we needed to impose the constitutional safeguards that our founding fathers entrusted to us, and through the power We the People have entrusted to you, to terminate the endless lawlessness, the disregard for our constitution and the callous willful criminal behavior. I called your office today and I stated "I EXPECT you to LEAD." This is a time for leaders and the American people NEED you and your fellow Senators to LEAD us out of this dark and dangerous place. This is NOT a time to be a politician; this is a call for leadership. We need the kind of leadership that we will teach our grandchildren about. The kind of leadership that will be recalled by future generations, and will inspire future leaders to protect our country from the sort of rogues we find ourselves saddled with from this dark and shameless administration. PLEASE DO NOT SHIRK YOUR PATRIOTIC RESPONSIBILITY.

It is time, it is past time to absolutely DEMAND action from our leaders. We must change the course of this disaster and the only way is to make so much noise, such loud demands and more than that, do so EVERY SINGLE DAY until we get the changes we demand.

CALL/WRITE/REPEAT      CALL/WRITE/REPEAT      CALL/WRITE/REPEAT      CALL/WRITE/REPEAT

BE LOUD!!! JUST DO IT.

Thanks for taking the time to write / call / repeat.

Leadership vs. political protection. Sen. Reid should know better. He's heard from me.

I honestly believe that if they are overwhelmed, they may feel forced to respond.

the ignoring of the subpeonas was enough for me to have already reached a tipping point, and I was writing after that happened. Great point though. If enough crazy wingnuts screaming at them over immigration can get them to wake up, then enough of us telling them they need to act and yesterday ought to do some good also.

Impeachment begins in the House. My Representative, Zoe Lofgren sits on the Judiciary Committee where impeachment proceedings will begin if they begin. I think she's getting a great deal of pressure from her constituents as the last time I wrote her on the subject (last week) I received an e-mail reply in less than a day. Usually she responds with a snail mail message.

Is Jim McDermott. He is already signed onto the Kuchinich impeachment bill, so I called his office and asked them to thank him for his brave patriotism and let him know that I am proud of his leadership on this issue! She seemed a little surprised! I am sure they hear more criticism than praise. So if they are doing good we should call and praise them too.

      •  Yes, we should let them know when they do (0+ / 0-)

        something we like.

Last week I contacted Congresswoman Lofgren and got in return a canned letter via e-mail. In it she said there may be grounds for impeachment but she couched it in such a way that left the door open for doing nothing about it. Still the fact I got the response within 24 hours via e-mail instead of the usual way I get responses back from her, which is snail mail about a couple of weeks to a month later, I think is a significant sign she is getting some pressure.

The Kucinich Bill is mostly symbolic I fear only because it isn't the result of a congressional investigation, and it's limited to Cheney. I feel Congress must investigate and impeach them both simultaneously.

I can see why Pelosi isn't great guns about it because she's third in line and would be President if both were removed from office. It would be a bit unseemly for her to campaign vigorously for their removal, which is why she can't really lead, but Congressman Conyers can certainly lead and so can Senator Leahy and Senator Reid.

    With this message:

    Dear Senator _______,

Up until now I've not been a strong supporter of impeaching the president or the vice president only because I thought it would be a waste of time and resources better spent elsewhere. However the events of the past week have caused me a great deal of alarm and I feel our democracy is in grave danger. I am a veteran who took my oath to protect and defend the United States and the Constitution seriously. While I am no longer active duty, I still hold to that oath, which is why I am contacting you.

There is considerable evidence George W. Bush and Richard Cheney have committed crimes while in office including obstruction of justice, misleading Congress, violations of international law, and possibly war crimes.

I know impeachment proceedings begin in the House of Representatives, however I am asking you to add your voice to the growing chorus of people who are asking them to begin impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Richard Cheney and should they be impeached vote for conviction provided there is evidence of criminal behavior when it comes to the Senate for trial.

    Respectfully,

    Cali Techie

I think some people put off writing because they are intimidated by WHAT TO WRITE. I hope these give them some ideas. The words are not as important as just doing it. Call / write / repeat
